Is world hunger falling?
As of 2024, chronic hunger worldwide is 8.2%: −4.5 pts since 2000.
Why it changed
Both are true at once here: rising farm productivity, incomes, and food-security and social-protection programs widened access to food, cutting the share from about 13% in 2000 to 8.2%. And also, roughly 1 in 12 people, about 673 million, still face chronic hunger, and the rate is still above its 7.5% pre-pandemic level.
